SUMMARY:Pyramid Lake Ladder Fishout - March 2026 - UPDATED - 12/01
DESCRIPTION:Trailers are Full - 12/01 \nFishmaster: Mike White\nGreetings
fellow Santa Cruz Fly Fishing Club Members\n\nI have been leading the Pyra
mid Lake fishing trip for the past ten years. It has always been a remarka
ble fish out\, and one of the best attended too.\n\nThis one is similar to
trips we've done in the past except on a smaller scale. I have reserved 2
trailers and can accommodate 10 people.  The dates are March 15th throug
h the 21st. The weather can be very unpredictable in March\, but we have h
ad good times in the past fishing this time of year.\n\nAs of 12/01 - All
club reserved trailers have been filled\n\nThe cost will range from $250 -
$300 for lodging and typically meals are worked out by each trailer lead.
For example\, I lead trailer 9\, and make a group buy of food for breakfas
t\, lunch\, and then each person is responsible to cook one dinner which t
hey provide.  It usually works out to $60 per person for the group buy\,
and whatever your dinner costs. It's a very reasonable investment for a fi
ve plus day trip.\n\nSo\, if you want to join us please contact me right a
way\, like today. I have already  paid the 50% deposit on the trailers. A
s of September 24th we have five people signed up to attend the fish out.
I can be reached at 831 706-5556\, text or call. Or email me at lumberguy7
3@hotmail.com\n\nAgain if you want to go\, get back to me now.\n\nGeneral
Lake / Shore Fishing Information: \n\nEquipment: 6-9 weight rods with hi-
speed\, hi-D shooting heads or fast sink integrated lines to fish the bott
om in 6 to 9 feet of water\, and a floating line for indicator fishing. Yo
u should bring a stripping basket and a ladder that will accommodate it. A
ladder helps to get you up out of the cold water and enables you to cast
out to where the fish are. You can still catch fish without one but not wi
th nearly as much consistency.\n\nFlies: Woolly buggers in black\, white\,
purple\, olive\, midge\, caddis and mayfly nymphs to name a few. There is
a general store with provisions as well as tackle and an assortment of fl
ies.\n\nHow to get there: Take US 80 to Reno-Sparks\, take the Pyramid Blv
 d. off ramp and go north about 35 miles. Crosby Lodge is at Sutcliff\, nea
r the Ranger Station. If you have any questions about equipment or how to
get there\, check the “Gearing up” columns in the March 2007-2009 arch
ives on our great club website\, or call Mike White at (831) 706-5556.If y
ou are considering going to Pyramid again this year with the club and you
have not already done so\, please contact the person who is booking the tr
ailer you stayed in last year. Trailer-masters\, if your trailer has gaps
or cancellations\, you can call Mike so he can pass the names of members w
ho don’t have lodging to fill the empty spots.\n\nFishing\, Camping\, an
d New Ladder Regulation: Fishing and camping permits can be purchased onli
ne prior to the fish-out. We would highly recommend doing this. Go to www.
plpt.nsn.us to obtain your licenses. There is also an RV Park available at
  (775) 476-1155.\n\nAs with any great fishery there are always a long list
of rules and regulations. We would recommend you review them on the websi
te above. Suffice to say those of us who have been go-ing to Pyramid Lake
for many years are a good source of information as well. We will help info
rm and guide all newcomers.\n\n15.6 USE OF LADDERS\, ETC.: Any ladders\, m
ilk crates\, boxes or other objects used in the water as a fishing aid mus
t be occupied or closely attended (i.e. remain in the area) by fishermen a
t all times. Any person who leaves such objects unoccupied in the water fo
r more than one hour will be deemed guilty of littering. 15.6.1 Fishing ai
ds described above must have a permanent tag affixed that has the name\, a
ddress\, and phone number of the owner of the fishing aid. If the permitte
d angler using the fishing aid is not the owner\, the owner will be the re
sponsible party for any infractions by the permitted angler.\n\nI have obs
erved people parked closer than 100 feet to the lake. I asked several of t
hem about it\, and the response was the Rangers weren’t enforcing it. Th
is prompted me to contact the lead Ranger by phone. He said\, “We are mo
st definitely going to enforce the 100-foot ordinance!” So\, when parkin
g your vehicle\, you must be a minimum of 100 feet from the lake’s water
line. Also\, you need a permanent tag affixed to your ladder with your na
me\, address\, and phone number on it. Most of us who use fiberglass ladde
rs use a heavy black magic marker to write the necessary information direc
tly on the ladder. There are also tags which can be purchased from local f
 ly shops\, for a fee.\n\nPyramid Lake Lodge at (775) 476-0400\n\nNOTE: Due
to insurance regulations\, all attendees must be paid up members of Santa
Cruz Fly fishermen\, so get your member-ship paid up if you haven’t don
 e so yet.\n\n\n\n
